Valentine’s day Gift bags

February is the month of love and showing love entails gifting. 😜😍

I’ve bought a fresh stock of good quality printed paper and with my new cricut machine, I’m whipping up quite a storm.

I’ve made these small gift bags – to gift chocolates, or jewellery to your valentine.

The bags are embellished with bows/hearts and look so pretty that they are a gift by themself.

New Idea for gift packing

Nowadays gift wrapping has become as important and complicated as choosing the gift itself.  Whether it is for birthdays, anniversaries or for weddings, just wrapping a paper is not enough.  Specially in a Hindu marriage ceremony gifts are to be given to the mother-in-law and also to the groom.  There is a constant demand for innovative packing.

Here is a simple way of making a bag from a rectangular piece of paper.  I am using an A4 sized paper.  If you use a bigger size then the other measurements should be adjusted accordingly.

You will need:

A4 thick paper ( 8 and 1/4th x 11 and 1/2 inches or 21cm x 29 cm)

Contrasting or matching paper for the design and handles.

Scorer, scissors, border punch or contour scissors and glue.

Step 1:

Keeping the paper vertical and right side facing up score at 1/4th and 3/4th distance of the width of paper.  Since the scorer has marking in inches score at 2 and 1/8th inches and 6 and 1/4th inches.

Step 2:

Then keeping the paper horizontal score two lines in the centre such that the distance between them is same as step 1 that is 2 and 1/4th inches.  This forms the base of the bag.  If you need a bigger base then increase the distance, but this will reduce the height of the bag.

Step 3:

Then keeping the paper right side down, crease from the joint of the creases formed in the first two steps in all 4 directions.

Step 4:

Fold up the paper along the creases as shown.

Step 5:

Fold a suitable paper and cut out the piece and then cut into two.

Step 6:

Keeping the folded edge to the outside punch out a border on each piece.  I have used Martha Stewarts Heart Scroll punch.  You can use a scalloped scissors if you do not have a punch.

Step 7:

Cut two 1 cm thick strips of 8 and 1/4th inches length.  Cut out two slits of 1 cm on the folded edge at a suitable distance.

Step 8:

Glue one half to the right side of the bag.

Step 9:

Now insert the strips of paper in the slits and paste to the inside keeping the handle straight.

Step 10:

Now fold back the sides and stick the other half .

Step 11:

Now repeat this for the other end and your bag is ready.

As Rakhee festival is coming up you can use this to pack cosmetics, shirts or even sweets to gift to your brother.
