Textured Cement Planters and Tea-light Holders

I have been working on white cement lately. Earlier I had posted about the flared cement vases and the fluted cement vases/planters that I had made using cloth.

These planters are made wholly of cement and the outer surface has been textured using various media.

For the first one I’ve used bubble wrap which gives this planter a dotted texture.

For the second one I’ve used leaves of Monstera to show off the veins and give the planter some oomph.

And I also used my spare cup cake moulds to make different shapes of Tea-light holders. I left the planters with the raw cement finish because they looked elegant in white. Some of the Tea-light holders I painted in gold and copper.

Looking forward to try some other textures.

The last post was all about making a vase using a square fabric piece and white cement. This post is about two more vases/planters using circular fabric pieces. And this time I cured the cement for 7 days and then painted one with off-white acrylic distemper and one with white exterior emulsion.

The shape looks awesome. The previous square ones looked trendy and flamboyant, and these two look royal and elegant. Two different looks for two different decors.

Looking forward to trying out some more new shapes.

Set in Cement

I’m fond of flowers and gardening. Ergo I need a lot of vases and planters. I’ve seen a lot of videos of making cement pots online and they reminded me of my childhood activity of pouring cement in old plastic moulds and creating different shapes.

I made these vases/planters draping a square piece of cloth on a bottle after coating it with white cement.

The natural folds of the cloth gave it a dramatic impact. They reminded me of flames, so I spray painted one of these with a little touch of yellow and orange.

They both make such striking vases for my garden flowers and they are ideal for gifting to people who treasure handmade articles.

I’ll keep you posted on the different shapes and textures as and when I make them.
