Peacock Mandala

I had done Mohini Mandala and Floral Fantasy mandala on shades of pink and red as background. I wanted to do one on a green blue combination. And what other shape is better suited to this colour scheme than a peacock? So here goes.

Peacock Mandala

Floral Fantasy

Mandalas – perfect symmetry, balanced use of space, intricate patterns exuding peace and calm.

The Zen process of creating a Mandala

Mandalas always make me introspect. The inner pure centre symbolizing my core being, surrounded by close family and friends in a shell around me. Then the space in between to keep away the outer chaos.

I chose the colour purple because it represents royalty, creativity, wisdom, peace and mystery.

Mohini Mandala

mandala as it is called in Sanskrit is a ‘circle’, and a geometric configuration of symbols. A mandala generally represents the spiritual journey, starting from the outside universe to the inner core, through layers.

Drawing mandalas provides the benefits of meditation – it calms the inner self. It improves concentration and heals from within.

I’ve made this mandala over a yellow, orange and red background. It looks so rich and vibrant, I’ve named it Mohini – the enchantress.

International Yoga Day

Yesterday was International Yoga Day. Surya namaskar or sun salutation is an integral part of Yoga. It combines 12 asanas or poses for a complete body workout.

This is my version of surya namaskar depicted by combining mandala art (for the sun) and Warli (for the human figure poses).

Riot of colors Mandala – Dot Painting

In the previous mandalas that I’ve painted there was a geometric design as a base. But for this one, I just decided to go spontaneous. It was fun to pick colors like a child and go crazy.

Dot Painting – Royal Red

It’s a perpetual tug of war between paper and paint for me. If I could have owned a huge studio, I’d have a room full of paint bottles and brushes and dotting tools and all paint accessories. And the other would have all kinds of paper, punches, die cuts etc. And of course there would be a knitting room, a stitching room and a room filled with discarded things to upcycle.

Coming back from my day dream, here’s a dot painting mandala in my favorite color combination of red and golden.
